Acknowledgements
My bravery is inherited from the chiefs who were my forebears.
We acknowledge all those who served in the 28th Battalion, particularly those who paid the ultimate sacrifice. We also pay tribute to the whānau who kept the home fires burning and waited through those dark years for loved ones to return.
In making this resource we spoke to many people, some of whom shared their stories on film for rangatahi to hear. We, as mere conduits, will return that film footage to whānau, as rightful kaitiaki of such taonga.
Many people helped in writing, filming, designing and developing this multi-media resource. We are indebted for their advice and support. It has been a humbling experience to work on this project. For each one of us involved it has been a labour of love, and a privilege to be part of.
If there are any errors or omissions, forgive us. But be assured that we have done everything possible to make the resource authentic, engaging and meaningful for our rangatahi. We have tried to ensure that they have the fullest understanding of the trials and triumphs of their tūpuna, while at the same time gaining an insight into the knowledge handed down through waiata and haka.
Kia Mau was developed by CWA for the Ministry of Education.
Many thanks to all those who participated in the production of this resource.
